At the Taylor Made Fútbol Initiative (TMFI), we build a holistic soccer ecosystem that transforms young athletes from underserved communities into elite players, coaches, and professionals, while breaking down systemic barriers to access and success. Led by former professional athletes, we combine sports expertise with community development. Our model follows the global gold standard, emphasizing early technical training, coach development, and career pathways, addressing gaps that have long limited U.S. soccer.

The Taylor Made Futbol Initiative (TMFI)

(TMFI) was founded by former NFL linebacker Barrett Green, who envisioned a different path for his son, one rooted in the virtues of sport without the risks of life-altering injury. TMFI was created in honor of Barrett’s close friend, Sean Taylor, who tragically lost his life while courageously defending his family during a home invasion. Sean’s legacy lives on through this mission to uplift and empower youth through the global game of soccer.

Drawing from his experience in professional sports and firsthand exposure to elite youth soccer systems, Barrett brings a powerful blend of insight and opportunity to underserved communities across the United States.

Building Character Through Community

TMFI uses soccer as a vehicle to teach life skills, instill character, and create pathways to higher education. By introducing the game and its values of discipline, teamwork, resilience, and respect to youth in urban centers, TMFI offers a unique educational and athletic model designed to prepare young people for long-term success.

Our mission is to provide inner-city youth in the Southeastern U.S. with access to world-class coaching and exposure to collegiate and professional opportunities both domestically and abroad, including connections to premier leagues such as La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and MLS.

A Message From Our Founder

I wanted a different life for my son; one without the violence I endured over eight years in the NFL. I wanted him to experience all the virtues that come from playing sports: discipline, teamwork, perseverance, without facing the risk of life-altering injury. I didn’t want years of dedication and sacrifice to be jeopardized every time he stepped onto the field.

So I exposed him to everything: golf, soccer, baseball. He gravitated toward soccer because he loved to run, and he was naturally gifted. But I knew how competitive the sport was. If you don’t start young, it’s hard to catch up. By the age of five, he was already dominating his peers, so I promised to take him to Spain, where the best youth coaches and most skilled young players reside.

Now, I want to give that same opportunity to other young boys and girls, especially those who’ve never been exposed to soccer. Some of the most talent-rich communities in the world have never had access to the sport, let alone to world-class coaching at an early age. TMFI will change that, and in doing so, help change the game of soccer itself.

I named the initiative after one of my closest friends, Sean, who tragically lost his life defending his family during a home invasion. May his name live on forever through this mission.
